Harry Winston's Opus 6

A break in the production o Harry Winston's Opus series was not a permanent one. Some visionary minds began working on the new masterpiece. Harry Winston stated collaboration between jewellery house and outstanding individualist watchmakers. The history of Harry Winston includes previous collaborations with F-P Journe, A. Prezusio, Vianney Halter, C. Claret, and the 2005 partner F. Baumgartner. The Opus series is considered to be the innovation platform which could not be forsaken. That is why the new managing director Hamdi Chatti proposed a meeting with Robert Greubel and Stephen Forsey. The brainstorming session ended with the later development of the new idea of the French-British watchmaking duo. Together with a Harry Winston jewelry firm situated in New York and being Swiss branch, the two designers developed the Opus 6 model. This design is a mix of typical Harry Winston features and an unusual technique developed by Greubel and Forsey. The contemplation of the two designers created a truly remarkable result. The sophisticated architecture of the watch needed only 6 months to be created.
The Opus 6 represents a solid case made of white gold that contains a tourbillion. The later is not an ordinary tourbillion; it's a double one, mainly a one minute cage that is rotating inside another one - a four minute one. This whole cage is sloped 30 degrees from the horizontal.
Remember that this is a collaboration of the watchmaker and the greatest jewelers of the planet. The result of this collaboration is a piece of art that represent the mix of a stylish design that is visually amazing and technically excellent. It seems that the tourbillion rotates by itself having no connection with the mechanism. You may wonder where a part of the mechanism and the hands are. The answer is that there are no hands, and the time is told from the three small discs that are situated at the top of the watch. Each disc represents hours, minutes and seconds respectively. As for the missing part of the mechanism - it is hidden under the plates that support the three discs. This construction makes the tourbillion rotation above a blued gold base plate free and silent. A tourbillion bridge is supported by the blue steal conical pillars. This bridge is designed in the double arches shape of the signature of the Harry Winston brand. Finally a small but at the very same time important feature is the red number 6 on the watch which represents the 6th model of Opus series.
While developing ideas for Opus 6, the designers thought of breaking the constraints concerning the design of watches, thus offering freedom to their imagination. There is so much to admire about this watch.
